If your new Laptop computer comes with Windows 8 as the built-in operation system, it might has the “Secure Boot” enabled by default. And with “Secure Boot” on, you cannot boot from CD-ROM drive or USB storages, NIC etc.
If you need to boot from CD-ROM drive or USB thumb drive to reinstall the system to Win7 or Windows XP, you need to disable “Secure Boot” on a Dell Latitude E6530, E6230computer, the procedure will be similar to other model of DELL computers, since they use the similar BIOS menu interface.
By default a new Dell windows 8 computer’s boot menu looks like this. (Boot mode is set to: UEFI; Secure Boot: On)
Press F2 or F12 to get into BIOS -> Secure Boot -> Secure Boot Enable (Disabled)
Setting-> General -> Advanced Boot Options -> Enable Legacy Option ROMs (Checked)
Select Legacy Boot List (Setting -> General -> Boot Sequence -> Boot List Option (Legacy)
After diabling the secure boot and enabling legacy options roms, the boot menu screen (press F12 to get into), looks like this.
The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware. UEFI is meant to replace the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) firmware interface
